Seiko Presage Automatic 60th Anniversary Limited Edition

Seiko has just announced a limited edition timepiece that pays homage to the company’s first automatic watch that was launched in 1956.

The Seiko Presage Automatic 60th Anniversary Limited Edition has a similar look to the original Seiko Automatic, including its “curved pale ivory dial,” its retrograde power reserve indicator, and the snake “S” mark which was first seen on the Seiko Automatic in 1956. However, the “S” is emblazoned on the crown whereas the original had the mark on the dial.

Through the caseback of this limited edition, you can see the automatic movement, including a special gold-plated rotor. You can also see the number of the limited edition “XXXX/1956” around the steel perimeter of the caseback.

The watch is powered by modern automatic caliber 6R27 which has 29 jewels and a 45-hour power reserve.

A stainless steel case measuring 40.5 mm in diameter makes for a conservative look – that is not too large – and will surely add to the appeal of this limited edition.

The dual-curved sapphire crystal has an anti-glare coating and protects the dial which features a stamped guilloche pattern on the main dial and subdials. The dauphine-shaped hour and minute hands are gold-plated, as are the central seconds, power reserve, and date hands. The applied hour indices, including an Arabic numeral at 12 o’clock, are gold-plated.

Water-resistance is 100 meters. The watch comes with a crocodile strap with tri-fold push button release clasp and is offered in a limited numbered edition of just 1,956. (Ref. SARW027) The retail price is $1,100 and the watches will start arriving at Seiko boutiques this week.
