‘Breguet the Innovator. Inventor of the Tourbillon’ Exhibition NYC

Breguet Fifth Avenue Flagship NYC Boutique

Breguet’s traveling exhibition “Breguet the Innovator. Inventor of the Tourbillon,” made the final stop of its worldwide tour in NYC last Thursday at the brand’s flagship boutique on Fifth Avenue. To celebrate, Breguet held a private cocktail reception, allowing guests to view one of largest selections of tourbillons ever assembled in one place, including the star of the show — the No. 2567 tourbillon chronometer pocket watch made by Abraham-Louis Breguet himself in 1812 (pictured in the 3 images just under this paragraph). It is one of only 35 tourbillons that Breguet — the inventor of the tourbillon — ever made in his lifetime, and one of only 7 still known to be in existence.

“The showcase has traveled across Asia and Europe since it’s unveiling in Geneva at the start of 2013. Boasting the most expansive contemporary collection of tourbillon wristwatches, along with rare historic pocket watches, the exhibition offers a unique look into the brand’s horological legacy and its contributions to the future of watchmaking. Among the priceless timepieces on display is a tourbillon repeater chronometer from 1812 made by Abraham-Louis Breguet (A.-L. Breguet) himself, a replica of the legendary perpétuelle pocket watch with “à toc” quarter repeater known as the “No. 5,” and the 5377 ultra-thin tourbillon introduced at Baselworld this year.”

Abraham-Louis Breguet was awarded a patent for the tourbillon on June 26, 1801. He is considered the father of contemporary horology. His tradition is carried on by the watchmakers at Breguet who continue to push the limits of horology. The Breguet 5377 Extra-Thin (pictured just above) is a perfect example of how the tourbillon is being implemented into modern timepieces. This breathtaking modern haute horology timepiece, equipped with a tourbillon, of course, is a mere 7 mm thick. We cannot wait to see what they do next.
