Breitling introduced the Breitling Avenger Hurricane, with its military-aviator-influenced 24-hour dial, at Baselworld 2016. This year, the brand introduces a more civilian-friendly model with a traditional 12-hour dial in two dial colors.

Like the original Avenger Hurricane, the new model has an extra-large 50-mm case made of Breitlight, a proprietary high-tech material that Breitling says is 3.3 times lighter than titanium and 5.8 times lighter than steel but significantly harder than both. Among its other listed attributes are exceptional resistance to scratches, traction, and corrosion; thermal stability; and antimagnetic and non-allergenic properties, in addition to being warmer to the touch than other metals and, aesthetically, having a somewhat mottled surface texture.

The case is waterproof 100 meters (330 feet) and with the rider unidirectional rotating bezel tab. Crown screw-locked; it and chronograph push-piece non-slip control slot checkerboard pattern, even with gloved hands. Thickened sapphire crystal has both flash and hands and numbers are glowing.

The watch dial (Breitling refers to the color options “Cobra Yellow” and “Black Volcano”) militarization template numbers like its predecessor, but in a more traditional 12-hour arrangement, rather than a 24-hour scale preferred armed forces opportunity. The new dial-up configuration needs to replace the original caliber with a reliable Breitling caliber B01 B12 movement, the first Swiss brand interior movement.

Caliber B01’s attributes include automatic winding, a high-frequency 28,800-vph balance; a lengthy 70-hour power reserve; a date function at 4:30; and an integrated 1/4 second chronograph, with 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, along with small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. Like all Breitling’s in-house movements, this one has earned a chronometer certificate for timekeeping accuracy from the Swiss testing agency COSC.

The 12-hour scale of the Breitling Avenger hurricane is strong but made of rubber-lined comfort straps and an external anthracite-resistant military fiber. Now available at Breitling retailers, for $ 8,390.
