Chopard L.U.C. 8HF Power Control Black Ceramic

Chopard first unveiled their 8Hz ultra-high beat wristwatch, powered by in-house L.U.C caliber 01.06-L — at Baselworld 2012. This year they revealed a new version with the same case dimensions, but in matte black ceramic instead of titanium, and powered by all an new movement (caliber 01.09-L), which is based on the original but with a new power reserve function added.

So now you can keep track of the 60-hour maximum power reserve via a crescent-shaped display that is located at 10:30.

The black ceramic case measures 42 mm in diameter, with a black ceramic crown and bezel. Notably, the crown is at 4 o’clock, like the first 8HF. And it also has the same small sapphire crystal window on the back that allows you to watch the balance wheel oscillate at a ridiculously high-speed, which is cool. But it does makes you wonder why they did not expose the rest of the movement — especially considering there is a L.U.C. movement inside.

The sporty dial is black with a sunburst brushed finish and red and white accents. The Chopard L.U.C. 8HF Power Control Black Ceramic comes on a black textile strap with leather lining. Limited to 250 pieces. Retail price is $20,750.
