Hands-On with the Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph Travel Time 5990A

The Nautilus was first produced in 1976, almost forty years ago. The first chronograph Nautilus came in 2006. And now, Patek Philippe has a introduced for the first time, a Nautilus the combines the chronograph and dual time functions.

The Nautilus Chronograph Travel Time 5990A is presented in a 40.5 mm stainless steel case with alternating satin finished and polished surfaces. The dial is black/grey, with a horizontal guilloche pattern. The hour and minute hands have white luminous material, as do the applied indexes that mark all but the 12 and 6 o’clock hours.

The second time zone is indicated by a skeletonized central hand. Uniquely, the second time zone (or local time zone) can be adjusted by the buttons at 9 o’clock. Apertures at 3 and 9 o’clock indicate day/night in the home and local time zones. At 6 o’clock is a 60-minute chronograph counter that is operated by the buttons on the right side of the case. Chronograph seconds are indicated by the sweeping central hand. The date is indicated via a subdial at 12 o’clock, controlled via the crown.

Powering the new Nautilus is a self-winding CH 28-520 C FUS caliber with Gryomax balance and silicon Spriomax hairspring. It runs at 4Hz and has 55-hour maximum power reserve.
