Patek Philippe reveals Nautilus 40th Anniversary Limited Editions

Today, Patek Philippe revealed two 40th anniversary limited edition versions of their famous Nautilus timepiece, paying homage to the original that was launched 40 years ago (1976).

The Nautilus Ref. 5711/1P 40th Anniversary Limited Edition comes in a 40 mm diameter platinum case and the Nautilus Chronograph Ref. 5976/1G 40th Anniversary Limited Edition comes in a 44 mm diameter white gold case. There is no stainless steel model announced at this time, which is somewhat odd considering that at the time, the Gerald Genta designed Royal Oak and Nautilus models, were unconventional in their use of stainless steel cases.

Interestingly, the dials on the two limited editions feature a unique embossed text pertaining to the 40th anniversary, and diamond hour markers. The 5711/1P has an 18K yellow gold dial with a sunburst decoration that is coated with blue PVD and embossed with “40 1976–2016” at 6 o’clock. And 12 applied baton hour markers in 18K white gold with baguette diamonds (total weight approx. 0.34 karat). The 5976/1G also has a sunburst dial with a blue PVD coating, and it is embossed with “1976 – 40 – 2016” at 12 o’clock. Its 12 applied hour markers are in 18K white gold with baguette and princess-cut diamonds (total weight approx. 0.29 karat).

Both watches are powered by existing movements. The in-house manufactured caliber 324 S C, with a frequency of 4Hz, 213 parts, 29 jewels, and power reserve of 45-hours drives ref. 5711/1P. And caliber CH 28-520 C, which also beats at 4Hz, and has 327 parts, 35 jewels, and a power reserve of 55-hours, drives ref. 5976/1G.
