Just in time for SIHH 2011, Richard Mille signed a new ambassador to the brand. Starting in 2008, they signed Formula 1 race car driver Felipe Massa, then last year they signed pro tennis player Rafael Nadal, and now, they have signed pro golfer Bubba Watson. For Felipe Massa and Rafael Nadal, a special timepiece was created by Richard Mille, and the same is true for Bubba Watson. And just like Rafael and Felipe, Bubba will wear a special edition Richard Mille timepiece during all of his professional competitions.

The new RM 038 Tourbillon Bubba Watson wristwatch has been designed to resist the enormous shocks that occur from the impact of a golf club striking a ball. This shock is transferred from the golf club to the wearer’s arms and then to the timepiece. So the main challenge was to dampen the negative effects of the impact, so as to protect the movement. Specifically, the RM 038 features two cross braces that allow the delicate tourbillon movement to operate properly, even with the constant impacts and shocks that occur during an 18-hole game of golf.
