Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time Hands-On

After launching the all-new Overseas collection in January at SIHH, Vacheron Constantin recently unveiled the latest addition to the collection, the Overseas World Time.

The new World Time is presented in a stainless steel case measuring 43.5 mm x 12.6 mm, equipped with a soft iron casing ring that protects against magnetic fields, and with a screwed-down crown, resulting in a sporty world time wristwatch that is water resistant to 150 meters.

The exact same movement that powers the dressy Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle World Time (caliber 2460 WT), powers the new sports watch. A 22K gold oscillating weight – with wind rose, adorned with sandblasted, polished, and finely grained finishing – automatically winds the 4Hz caliber, up to a maximum 40-hour power reserve. The main plate features a perlage decoration, with Geneva strips on the bridges, as well as chamfered and polished edges – all visible through the sapphire caseback.

Apart from a difference in the hands, case, and bracelet, and a slight difference in the dial, this is essentially a more rugged version of the aforementioned watch. Functionally, they are the same. Indications include hours, minutes, central seconds, day/night indication, and 37 city world time (including half-hour and quarter-hour time zones). The center features a “Lambert” projection map that depicts the continents (enhanced by a sunburst satin-brushed finish) and the oceans (in a velvet finish), along with a translucent lacquered disc bearing the city names. A third sapphire disc laid over the map provides day/night indications by means of subtly graded smoky tints, synchronized with the 24-hour disc. Finally, a translucent lacquered velvet-finished outer ring serves to indicate the hours and minutes.

All indications can be adjusted by the crown.

Uniquely, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time comes with a stainless steel bracelet, with half Maltese cross-shaped polished and satin-brushed links, as well as two additional straps; an alligator leather strap with a black nubuck lining with a micro- perforated effect, hand-stitched, large square scales, and a rubber strap. In addition to the easy-fit strap system that allows you to switch between any of the straps or bracelet, without any tools, is an interchangeable solution for these bracelets and their folding clasp allowing it so they be switched and secured without any tools, as well, and according to the manufacture, this is done without sacrificing the robustness of the connection to the case.
